Deloyd Bennett was born April 28, 1937, in Lovejoy, Illinois to the union of James R. and Ruth (Thompson) Bennett. He journeyed to Omaha, Nebraska in 1956 after his Uncle Enos Jones told him the meat packing plants were hiring and he can make good money here. Shortly thereafter, Deloyd met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Maxine (Myles) Bennett. They married June 6, 1958, and from that union, five children were born, Delores, Anita (Allen), Crystal, Emory, and Tracy. Deloyd worked as a laborer at the Cudahy Meat Packing Plant until it closed. He worked in the meat packing industry for 30 years, sometimes working two jobs to provide for his family. In 1988 Mother Helene Shannon informed him that Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company was hiring security guards. He applied and got the job. Deloyd could not believe he was getting paid good money to walk around checking doors and sitting behind a desk. He proudly worked as a Mutual of Omaha Security guard for 18 years until retiring in 2006 at the age of sixty-eight. During this time, Deloyd also worked a successful lawn cutting service for eleven years. Rest In Peace, Dad!
