Obituary

 

Aretha Jones was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Holsey and Irma Alston on July 9, 1935.  She was the 4th of 10 children. 

Aretha joined Allen Chapel A.M.E. church at an early age and was a life-long member.  Aretha was a good and faithful member of Allen Chapel.  At Allen Chapel, Aretha served on the Usher Board and was the President for several years.  She also served on the Trustee Board and for several years, she worked in the Finance room.  .  In 2017, for her dedication on the Usher Board, she was recognized and honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

 

Education and History

Aretha attended Highland School through the 8th grade and graduated from Omaha South High School in 1953.

After graduating from high school, Aretha worked at Goldstein Chapman and Children’s Hospital before getting hired at Western Electric (Lucent, Avaya).  She retired in 2000 with over 35 years of service.  After retiring Aretha spent several years volunteering with the American Red Cross and at OPPD - Energy Assistance organizations.  Aretha loved her Nebraska Cornhuskers football and had the opportunity to attend several bowl games with her sisters.

Family

On January 2, 1955, she was united in marriage to William (Bill) Jones, Sr., until his death on October 13, 1998.

Aretha departed on Monday, November 16.  She is preceded in death by her Husband, William (Bill) Carl Jones, Sr; son, William (Billy) Carl Jones, Jr.; her Father, Holsey Alston, Mother, Irma Alston, 4 sisters, Dorothy Lee Hall, Irma Ann Sayles, Cutea Nadine Carter, Valeria Darlene Alston-Jones, brother, Kenneth Edwin Alston;  grandson, Carlton DuShane (Shane) Jones and 9 brothers-in-law and 4 sisters-in-law.

[Watercolor Blue Purple Roses Flower Clipart One Arrangement | Etsy] She leaves to mourn 5 daughters:  Carla Joette Jones and Lisa Marguerite  Jones from Omaha, Nebraska, Roslyn Elaine Canada from Lincoln, Nebraska, Angela Michelle Jones from Oak Point, Texas and Danielle Lynn Jones-Starks from Denver, Colorado, 1 son, Clayton Douglas Jones, also from Omaha, Nebraska; 2 sisters, Jacqueline Jean Keller from North Highlands, California, Marilyn Hope (Raymond) Dorsey from Hoffman Estates, Illinois; 1 brother, Gerald James Alston from Omaha, Nebraska; Goddaughter, Juanita McAllister Caldwell from Columbia, South Carolina;  15 grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other r relatives.
