Bennie Jones Sr., age 102, of Omaha, NE departed to eternal glory on November 6, 2024. Bennie (Tinnie) was born on April 17, 1922 in Pickensville, Alabama. He was the eldest of eleven children, 7 boys and 4 girls, born to Burl Clarence Jones Jr. and Mary (Sherrod) Jones of Pickensville. Bennie Sr. is a veteran, having served in the United States Navy during World War II directly following his high school graduation. After boot camp at the navy’s Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, Bennie deployed to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and then to Okinawa, Japan. He also served at Guam Island Territory and the Naval Ammunition Depot near Hastings, Nebraska. Bennie was preceeded in death by his wife, Lottie D (Ball) Jones, father, mother and 10 younger siblings in addition to two grandsons. He is survived by his children Geraldine Dulaney, Mamie Cousins, Elaine Adams, Bennie Jones Jr., and Darlene Trotter along with sons and daughter-in-law, Bob Stewart, Herbert Cousins Jr., Braymond Adams Jr., Linda (Wharton) Jones, and Michael Trotter. Bennie is also survived by two sisters in law, Ernestine Jones (Omaha) and Johnnie Mae Jones (Pickensville), 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 3 bonus great grandchildren. His large extended family originating from Pickensville, includes nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins branching from rural Alabama to various locations throughout the United States. Homegoing services include a wake on Friday, November 15 (5-7 pm) at Bennie’s home church, New Life Presbyterian, 4060 Pratt Street, Omaha, NE, 68111 and funeral services (9-10 am viewing and 10 am service) at Salem Baptist Church, 3131 Lake Street, Omaha, NE 68111.
