KENTON E. MOORE
January 31, 1950 – June 10, 2023
Kenton Edward Moore was born on January 31, 1950 in Omaha Nebraska to Vernithia Branche and Edward Moore. Kenton’s formative years were spent growing up in the loving family-focused neighborhood of 21st and Ohio Street. Kenton attended Lake Elementary School, Horace Mann, Jr. High and Tech High School from which he graduated in 1968. At Tech, he was an outstanding football player and excelled in academics. Kenton was also a member of the Boys Club of Omaha and later coached young boys. After graduation, he enrolled at Nebraska Wesleyan University, with the intent to become an OB-GYN physician It was during his time at Wesleyan that he was nicknamed “Doc”, a name that would stick with him for the remainder of his life. While there Kenton, became the first President of the Afro-American Collegiate Society. Kenton was a gifted poet and writer. He also enjoyed drawing, fishing, and watching his favorite team, The Chicago Bears.
Kenton left Wesleyan his senior year and pursued a career in Social Work. He worked at Douglas County Social Services for over 12 years, before continuing his career with the United States Postal Service for the next 15 years. During this time, he met his first wife, Sharon Tucker and was blessed with 3 beautiful children. In 1980, he met his second wife, June Wilson, who would remain by his side for the next 43 years.
Kenton was a loving father to Delbert, Raymond, Alan, Garlin, Edward and his only daughter Kayla. He was a devoted Grandfather to Tyreshia, Latashia, Sophia, Brandon, Jayden and Kyvie. Kenton was the ROCK of our family and was a father and uncle to over 80 nieces and nephews.
Kenton was a fiercely devoted “Big Brother” to his siblings, Sheri, Jackie, Mark, Cynthia (Ladybug) and Carol and was deeply loved.
On June 10, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer, Kenton went to his eternal rest. Kenton was preceded in death by his parents, Vernithia Fitzgerald and Edward Moore, sisters Sheri Long, Jackie Waters Bell and Carol Ann Terrell.
He is survived by his beloved wife and companion of 43 years June, sons, Delbert, Raymond, Alan, Edward, Garlin and his baby girl Kayla (Tim)
Brother, Pastor Mark J. Smith (Dorarena), Brother in Love, Jerry Lacy and sister Cynthia (Ladybug) Lacy (Jerry), and numerous friends.
