Sharon Young Obituary

Sharon Yvonne (Wright) Young, age 74, of Omaha, NE, went to glory on August 26, 2024. Sharon was born on September 17, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska, the eldest of six daughters to Sampson and Thera Doll Wright. She grew up in Omaha and attended Central High School. After graduating, Sharon continued her education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she met her soulmate and future husband, Wyndle Young, Sr.  Sharon enjoyed a long and successful career with Union Pacific Railroad, dedicating over 28 years before retiring. Known for her passion for learning and the value she placed on education, Sharon pursued advanced studies, earning a Master’s Degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma at Norman, Oklahoma. Sharon's commitment to a life of service began at a young age and remained a defining characteristic throughout her life. As a teenager, she volunteered at an after-school youth center, marking the start of many volunteer roles she would passionately undertake. Sharon also had a deep love for music, which she generously shared within the church and community. She mentored countless young musicians in the Omaha area and demonstrated her musical talent and leadership as the Minister of Music at Bethel AME Church, was a dedicated member of the Gospel Choir at Salem Baptist Church, and the Director of the Uplift Singers at Union Pacific. Alongside her husband, Wyndle, Sharon also served as a Bible Study Fellowship leader at West Hills Church, further exemplifying her dedication to her faith and community. When she wasn't immersed in her music or church activities, Sharon cherished spending time with her two sons, Wyndle Jr. and David, and their families. She took great joy in supporting her grandchildren’s pursuits, whether it was cheering them on at baseball, football, flag football, or golf. An avid tennis enthusiast, Sharon also loved watching her favorite players compete at Wimbledon, Australian and US Open each year. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Sampson and Thera Doll Wright, and her twin sisters, Karla and Kristi. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Wyndle L. Young, Sr.; her sons, Wyndle L. Young, Jr. (Linda) and David L. Young (Dao); her stepdaughter, Rosalind Young-Hawkins of Pine Bluff, AR; her sisters, Ruth Ann (Floyd) Bratton of Omaha, Barbara Olugbuyi of Atlanta, GA, and Beverly Robinson of Highpoint, NC.
