Walter A Smith Jr. “Smitty” Walter A Smith Jr. “Smitty” was born July 3, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska to Walter A Smith Sr. and Elverta (Hall) Smith. He was the 12th child of the 14 siblings in the family. Walter served his country from 1954-1957 enlisting in the United States Air-Force. He also served his community becoming a member of his local American legion Post #30. He was an active member of New Life Presbyerian Church. Walter worked for the City of Omaha and retired after 30+ years. During that time he earned the distiction to be one of the first black heavy equipment operators for the City of Omaha. Walter married Lorraine Thompkins, and 5 children were part of the union. Terri Smith-Dunston, Veronica Frazier (Michael), Walter A Smith III (Terry), Karenina, and Timothy Smith Sr. He is survived by Daughters Terri and Veronica. Sons Walter III and Timothy Sr. Walter was preceeded in death by wife Lorraine, and Daughter Karenina “Sneezie”. Parents, Brothers Urias, Arion, Ivery, Azar, William, and Wilbert. Sisters Mildred, Ruby, LuCille, and Marie. Survived Brother Raymond (Muskegon Heights, MI) and Sisters Luvina, and Wilma Jean. His legacy lives on in his 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Daddy, Pawpaw, Grandpa, Uncle Walt, Smitty, Poppa & Dad Smith, Gamble, Red. Was a devoted Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, and friend. He was always ready to help his family when needed, and kept in constant contact with all his family irregardless of their feelings. He loved to hunt, fish and spent quality time with his Brother's, and friends at Carter lake. Family, and friends have good memories of his birthday parties being the kick off to the 4th of July holiday. The family wishes to acknowledge special friend Toroy Jones. CHI Health at Home Team.
