Willa Holmon Obituary

I, Willa Lee Johnson Holmon, was born April 12, 1935 to my parents, the late Alberta Franklin Bowers and the late William Coleman Johnson. I accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church, in South Omaha, where I also received my elementary education from Westside Elementary School and South High School. My dream to become a teacher came when I was in the second grade, inspired by my wonderful teacher, Miss Lillian Trunka. This dream became a reality in 1967 upon completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Omaha University. Ten years later, I was blessed to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. My educational background of experiences offered the opportunity for me to serve in various administrative roles and responsibilities for the Omaha Public Schools: Lead Teacher Administrative Intern Assistant Principal Supervisor of Instruction Teacher and Principal Support Superintendent’s Advisory Human Resources To my delight, I was able to provide a variety of workshops and in-services to community agencies, churches, and non-public schools including Head Start. Topics for the various workshops were: Homework and Parents Discipline Without Anger Getting Ready for Kindergarten Team Building Time Management and Organization With dedication to the Omaha Public Schools and the community, it was a blessing to receive many plaques and accolades for service rendered. Another special joy and time in my life was, for 14 years playing the piano and singing for the gospel group, Candle Light Singers. Also, for many years I immensely enjoyed playing the piano for the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church Youth Choir. Finally, another dream I was blessed to accomplish, I became a self-publishing author of children’s books; Kan & Ken, series of six books. I was preceded in death by my parents, Alberta Franklin Bowers and William Coleman Johnson; my beautiful sister, Ella M. Niles; brothers, Eldridge C. Johnson and Norman H. Bowers; and my beloved son, James Vincent Holmon (Sandra). I leave my precious children, who are my greatest blessing and love: Kristi M. Kuhn (Mike), Craig D. Holmon (Stacy); daughter-in-law, Sandra Holmon; grandchildren, Kisha Mallory, Dana Rose, Gerald Kuhn II (Simone), Kristopher Kuhn (Ashley), Kaloni Holmon, and Devin Holmon; granddaughter-in-love, Ajai Kuhn; great-grandchildren, Kandra, Kendal, Jayla, Alivia, London, Gerald III "Tre", Kristopher II "Two", and Daniel; and great-great grandsons, Trenton and Tahj. Thank God for my loving sisters, Sandra and Judy Johnson, of Kansas City, Kansas. I have been wonderfully blessed with many precious nieces, nephews, and cousins. I was truly LOVED by many dear friends! I dare not try to mention names of special people in my life, but each of you know who you are! God smiled on me when He placed you in my heart to be a wonderful part of my incredible life’s story! Each of you brought something very special to my life. The reality is that I have been blessed with many God children who call me,“Mom,” “Ninie,” “Ms. Willa," or "Ma Dear.” "Ms. Holmon," "Weeble Wobble." Finally, I thank God for my two beautiful, loving BFFs (BEST FRIENDS FOREVER) Barbara Robinson and Jessie Brown. My amazing best friends brought something special to my life that made all the difference! Thank God for the richness, and LOVE ALL OF YOU HAVE BROUGHT TO MY LIFE
