Yolanda Johnson Obituary

Yolanda Johnson, departed this life on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Yolanda was born September 19, 1963 to the late Thomas Johnson and Joyce Stovall Johnson in Los Angeles, California. She was the eldest of two children. Derric was blessed to have Yolanda as his big sister. Yolanda graduated from Manual Arts High School in June of 1981. She worked many years at Entrepreneur Magazine in the 1980s and then on to Penfed Credit Union. She transferred from the Los Angeles office to the Omaha office after relocating with her mom and brother. Yolanda served 25+ years at Penfed. Yolanda is loved dearly by her coworkers. She considered her coworkers as “FAMILY” as she lovingly and frequently expressed on Facebook and during conversations. She spent much time with her extended family outside of work. Yolanda’s motto was “Love, Laugh, Live!” She made people feel loved and important. She was very generous and loved making people happy. You knew you were in for a good time when “Yoyo” entered the room! She loved R&B music from Michael Jackson, Prince and Keith Sweat to Anita Baker, Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle. She enjoyed concerts, cards, and doing art projects with friends. She was a great spades partner as well!!! Yolanda grew up in south central Los Angeles. It seemed as though Yoyo knew everyone in the neighborhood. She was especially fond of her extended family next door. “The Tillmans” — more family!!! Yolanda was blessed to meet Cherylyn Tillman, her “Bestie”, and adopted her entire family as her own. She added additional mom Doris and dad John Tillman; four brothers: Johnny, William, Robert, and Adrian. And four sisters: Cherylyn, Madelyn, Timolyn, and Gwendolyn. She became Godmother to Madelyn’s twins PaTryce and KaTryce and auntie to all grandchildren. Even though Yolanda relocated to Omaha, she kept “The LA Family” intact and visited them frequently. She also visits with about 10 of her friends she’s known since elementary school. Vickey is another best friend of Yolanda’s. They have known one another since age 13. Yolanda professed Christ at an early age. And as a little child, she participated in the family choir. She would often visit her Stovall family in Omaha. She would sing along with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins in Mama Nola’s and Daddy Burr’s (Grandparents) living room and dressed in red, white, and blue uniform for church. Yolanda will be sorely missed!!! She was especially fond of young people and “her family”. She was close to her grandparents, uncles, aunts, her beautiful mom, dad and brother Derric! She never forgot a birthday and always looked for a reason to celebrate others! Rest easy young lady! You’re in a safe place. Much LOVE!!!! Yolanda leaves to cherish her memory, brother, Derric Johnson; aunts Mary E. Stovall and Vivian Stovall; Michael (Brenda) Wilkins Sr.; Uncle James (Dorothy) Haywood; cousins Sharon Lockett of Swansea, IL, Janet (James) Moton of Fairview Heights, Theodorise (Michael) Jackson of Belleville, IL, Kevin Stovall and A’Lisa D.
